Ball Mills/Pulverisers

The Ball Mill has been around for many years in the mining/ore extraction and building material industries, and this technology has now also been developed in recent years for the mechanical separation and pulverisation of Municipal Solid Waste.

The Ball mill is an efficient tool for grinding many materials into small particles and can if necessary be used to create a fine powder.

Ball mills, or pulverisers, are also used in the energy industries and are critical to the operation of any large coal-fired boiler. 

Ball mills rotate around a horizontal axis, partially filled with the material to be ground plus the grinding medium.  Within the ball mill the mechanism is mainly composed of charging and discharging, cyclone and rotation parts (like redactor, minor rotation gear, motor, etc).  As the drum rotates, the steel balls pulverise the contents; for this reason the device is called a ball mill.

MSW is not normally pulverised into particle sizes lees the about 25 mm diameter.
